Archaeological fieldwork throughout Leicestershire

A new members guide to Leicestershire Fieldwalkers is to be written and when done a new copy will be sent to all members.  We welcome comments on what would be useful to put in the guide and anyone who would like to help revise it would be most welcome!  Please contact us through the contact page on this website.

Leicestershire Fieldworkers committee will also on an updated version of the ‘Community Archaeology – A Fieldworker’s Handbook of Organisation and Techniques’  by Peter Liddle.  This booklet was originally published in 1985 by Leicestershire Museums and sets out in detail how to fieldwalk and is the basic guide in use in the County.  Photocopies of relevant sections can be done and some second hand copies do become available occasionally. It’s still worth reading.   The techniques of fieldwalking are taught on our annual training day held in early October each year. Training in fieldwalking is also available to newly-formed or re-forming fieldwork groups and if you have a group of people who wish to ‘have a go’ we are happy to come out and work with you in the field.  Please contact us.
