Summer Trip 2017

June 3, 2016

2017 – Our trip this year was on Saturday 17th June and was a visit to Medieval Sherwood –  Rufford Country Park, Sherwood Forest and the archaeological remains found there including King John’s Palace.    The trip tied in with a lecture about the Forest by Andy Gaunt on Thursday 15th June.  Download the Trip Application Form and further details SCYRYUDA Medieval Sherwood Trip booking form and notes 170617 I’ll put up some pictures when I’ve sorted them out.  It was an excellent (though hot) day.

2016 The summer trip last year was to see the Tudor Garden at Stonton Wyville, a chance to see the newly refurbished Oakham Castle including the walls now revealed around the site.  We continued on to investigate Brooke Priory, the only medieval priory in Rutland that later became the mansion of the Noel family.  It has the largest formal garden earthworks in the area – a contrast to the small but perfectly formed Stonton. It was an excellent day and we managed to fit in two fascinating churches as well.  See our picture gallery http://leicsfieldworkers.co.uk/picture-gallery/summer-trip-2016/ for a few pictures of where we went and what we saw.
