A lecture by Dr Roderick Dale, University of Nottingham. Leicestershire lay on the borders of the Danelaw. A Frontier between the conquering ‘Great Army’ and the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia. The evidence for the Scandinavia occupation is all around us, in the place names of local villages, the finds coming from Fieldwalking and from metal detecting, as well as the hordes of coin and bullion found locally. The Vikings helped to shape our language, art, local government and landscape; and almost certainly our local gene pool.
At Melton Carnegie Museum, Thursday 22nd March. Doors open 7.30 – talk begins 7.30. Cost £5 – ring 0116 305 3860 or firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve seats. Presented by Melton Fieldwalkers Group. All welcome.
