Archaeological fieldwork throughout Leicestershire

Grants

The Leicestershire Fieldworkers offer small grants to support the work of our local groups and members.

The first grant of £2000 was made in 2019 to the Hallaton Field Work Group allowing them to purchase new software for their geophysical equipment. They have always been most generous in supporting projects in the County and beyond and this will help them in continuing this work.

If you are interested in applying for a grant, please read the guidelines below and download a grant application form.

How do I apply?

All applications must be made using the Fieldworkers’ grant application form available above. This can be filled out digitally and returned to info@leicsfieldworkers.co.uk

Or post to: Leicestershire Fieldworkers, C/O Archaeological Services (ULAS), University of Leicester, University Road, Leicester, LE1 7RH

If you cannot use the on-line application, please contact us at info@leicsfieldworkers.co.uk

 Who can apply?

We are particularly keen to help grassroots community groups and small-to-medium-sized voluntary organisations. In exceptional cases, grants may be made to individuals.

You do not have to be a registered charity to apply, but the work you ask us to support must be legally charitable. However, please note that we do not normally make grants for general running costs or unrestricted purposes. Grants will always be restricted to activities within our charitable objectives.

You must have a governing document (constitution, rules, memorandum and articles of association etc.), a governing body of at least three unrelated individuals and a bank account in your group’s name with at least two unrelated signatories or be part of a wider organisation which meets these criteria.

Please note if you have previously had a grant from us we will not consider any new application unless you have sent us all the required grant reports.

Which area do I need to be in to apply?

Grants are for activities in Leicestershire and Rutland only.

What sort of support is available?

Grants are restricted to activities which fall within our charitable objectives, primarily, supporting research or exploration (including equipment) which extends our knowledge of the archaeological environment or provides education or training or such activities as may inform the general public about the archaeological and historical environment of Leicestershire and Rutland.

When will I get a decision?

We will normally take up to twelve weeks to make a decision. We will let you know if you have been awarded a grant or not.
